Reaching out to the family after being in no contact

I answer a question from a past student who asks how to reconnect with their family who and I quote called them a piece of shit. After years of escaping the grips of average to reach their dreams they are starting to wonder if they should go back to that environment.

Do we need other people to achieve? Do we need that support system to develop and grow into the life we want to achieve?
